Chapter 9
To keep on filling is not good as stopping.
Overfilled, the cupped hands drip, better to stop pouring.
The constant need to fill every waking moment with productivity, information, or digital stimulation feeds a deep-seated fear of emptiness or boredom. We forget the value of silence and space, which are essential for creativity and clarity.
Sharpen a blade too much and its edge will soon be lost.
Fill your house with jade and gold and it brings insecurity.
Puff yourself with honor and pride and no one can save you from a fall.
Relentless striving for perfection, success, and external validation fuels the fear of inadequacy. The more we chase, the less satisfied we feel. We become trapped in a cycle of comparison and never feeling "enough."
Retire when the work is done;
this is the way of heaven.
The inability to truly rest reflects a fear of missing out, a fear of not doing enough, a fear of being left behind. True restfulness arises from a sense of inner contentment and trust that "enough has been done" for the moment.
